JAWAD FAYAZ

I am an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Exeter, UK, and an Honorary Lecturer at University College London (UCL), UK. My research is based on machine learning and deep learning areas with interdisciplinary goals of improving community resilience and sustainability through engineering and environmental intelligence. The work spans a wide array of challenges related to natural and built environments including decision support systems for earthquakes, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, infrastructural health monitoring, traffic optimization, water distribution management, and climate change adaptation strategies. My expertise includes artificial neural networks, time-series analysis, computer vision, feature engineering, risk and reliability analysis, surrogate modelling, simulations and generative AI, Bayesian modelling, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI).

Besides research and teaching, I like practicing martial arts (Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu), weight training, long-distance running, hiking, travelling, listening to informative podcasts (such as Peter Attia Drive, Huberman Lab, etc.) and reading books (such as Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl, Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche, etc.)
